Hi, I had a problem similar to yours, but today I finally got iwlwifi to work! Have you tried different values for wpa-scan-ssid and wpa-ap-scan? 0 and 1 respectively were the winning combination for me...
There was one other thing that screwed me big time when switching from ipw3945 to iwlwifi: I had configured my firewall using shorewall, but I had not changed my shorewall configuration from eth2 to wlan0! You should definitely check your firewall configuration too, maybe that's the problem. I've added those and a couple of other things to http://wiki.debian.org/iwlwifi.
