Here's the dmesg from my system. Is an Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2 motherboard with an AMD Athlon64 3800+ CPU, 1 x 1GB stick of Kinston DDR2-800 ram. I had installed the kernel then shutdown for the night. The problem appeared the following day. I don't know as its hwclock not working, but that the wrong data was written to the hwclock. After all, the hwclock up to that point had been accurate over many reboots. The problem was that something told the system clock on the boot the day after the kernel install that the year was 1995. The problem was fixed when the box went on the internet and ntp kicked in. Subsequent reboots have been fine and the date is no longer a problem. Thanks, Doug.
