sure as expected nothing interesting there.

can be accelerated by passing rootdelay=<seconds>

this is a direct hint that your boot root arg got renamed
(and no there is exist no stable names, better use uuid)

how about if you boot with root=/dev/sda5 for the newer kernel?
and you'd need also to fix up your fstab
