Well, I should have explained better. That command would work as expected, but I'm talking about the default behaviour, so if you don't specify -o iocharset=utf8 the default will be iso-8859-1. I discovered the issue when talking to someone else on etch and since I use my own build GNU/Linux kernel I can't test it right now. But while he was using his sytem the nls_utf8.ko was not loaded.
