This was discussed numerous times before, and the consensus (the way I see it, at least) is that it is better to leave the user behind. There is always a possibility that there will be files owned by the user left on the system (or entries in /proc, in case of ipw3945d). If the user is removed and another user with the same uid is created later, it may lead to undesired consequences. I understand that it's a bit far fetched, but there is really no good reason, other than aesthetic, for removing it.
