Actually, I'm a little confused too. I've just tried booting the system 
without the noapic parameter and it worked. I've also tried booting the 
current etch installer, with which I've installed my system, without the apic 
parameter and it worked, also. Knoppix 5.1.1 Also boots successfully.

If I remember correctly, what happend was that when I installed Debian from 
those DVDs, booting normally didn't work, and the installer suggested using 
the noapic parameter. Then I did use the noapic parameter and installed the 
system.

I haven't tried daily images yet because of this. Would it still help if I 
test daily images?
