Package: linux-image-2.6.18-4-686-bigmem
Version: 2.6.18.dfsg.1-12etch2
Severity: important

I've put the following lines in my /etc/network/interfaces file:

allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

as recommended by

  http://groups.google.fr/group/linux.debian.user/msg/0d277efaae1aa7e4

I've tried booting the machine without the Ethernet cable, then
plugging it in, but eth0 disappeared from the ifconfig output.
I had to start "pump -i eth0" manually.

no evidence of any kernel error,
for userspace handling please ask on debian-user
instead of submitting "support bug reports".

thus closing.
