Package: linux-image-2.6.20-1-vserver-686 Version: 2.6.20-3 Severity: normal
I upgraded the kernel (from 2.6.18) to track some weird behavior within vserver (connections to vserver-ed apache start to drop packets eventually) -- and discovered that no vserver started on reboot automatically due to: ,-- | ncontext: vc_net_create(): Invalid argument | | An error occured while executing the vserver startup sequence; when | there are no other messages, it is very likely that the init-script | (/etc/init.d/rc 3) failed. | | Common causes are: | * /etc/rc.d/rc on Fedora Core 1 and RH9 fails always; the 'apt-rpm' build | method knows how to deal with this, but on existing installations, | appending 'true' to this file will help. | | | Failed to start vserver 'proxy' `--- I had to google up a quick fix to this http://www.christianschenk.org/blog/upgrading-vserver-from-20-to-22/ As a solution I see some warning during kernel installation which checks existing vserver configurations and at least warns if there are no contexts assigned. Also -- changelog.Debian.gz seems to be missing information about vserver patch upgrade over to 2.2... I found out about the upgrade only from the source of the package... and besides the changelog.Debian there is no way to figure out at run time what version of vserver patch is applied (it is wiped out from kernel version as upstream does) -- it would been perfect if 1 line in vserver patch added reporting of the vserver patch during boot... it sounds like a separate wishlist bugreport -- so pardon me for shuffling everything together. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 2.6.20-1-vserver-686 (Debian 2.6.20-3) ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (gcc version 4.1.2 20061115 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-21)) #1 SMP Wed Apr 25 00:46:19 UTC 2007 ** Not tainted ** Kernel log: vroot: loaded (max 8 devices) PNP: PS/2 Controller [PNP0303:KBD,PNP0f13:MOU] at 0x60,0x64 irq 1,12 serio: i8042 KBD port at 0x60,0x64 irq 1 serio: i8042 AUX port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12 mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice TCP bic registered NET: Registered protocol family 1 NET: Registered protocol family 17 Starting balanced_irq Using IPI No-Shortcut mode ACPI: (supports S0 S1 S4 S5<6>Time: tsc clocksource has been installed. ) input: AT Translated Set 2 keyboard as /class/input/input0 Freeing unused kernel memory: 208k freed SCSI subsystem initialized usbcore: registered new interface driver usbfs usbcore: registered new interface driver hub usbcore: registered new device driver usb USB Universal Host Controller Interface driver v3.0 ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:07.2[D] -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 16 uhci_hcd 0000:00:07.2: UHCI Host Controller uhci_hcd 0000:00:07.2: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1 uhci_hcd 0000:00:07.2: irq 16, io base 0x0000ece0 usb usb1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice hub 1-0:1.0: USB hub found hub 1-0:1.0: 2 ports detected Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE driver Revision: 7.00alpha2 ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override with idebus=xx ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:11.0[A] -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 16 3c59x: Donald Becker and others. www.scyld.com/network/vortex.html 0000:00:11.0: 3Com PCI 3c905B Cyclone 100baseTx at f881c000.
