ifconfig is not deleting the address, it is only cleaning the IFF_UP flag from it... I dont think ifconfig allows address deletion. I am not sure if the bug still exists or not. If it exists, it is a kernel problem. However it might not be a bug at all, since it can be related to the host-based address model.
