Backup the header of the partition for comparison, install cryptsetup, then just: cryptsetup luksOpen partition tag It always corrupts it for me. Sign is the message about header version of cryptsetup and the hang. I am running the root of the slug off a cf card in a usb card reader at the moment - I wonder if that changes the timing.
