It does this even if I don't start acpid. ps still shows kacpid. If I pass acpi=off to the kernel, I cannot seem to reproduce the problem. So it seems to be ACPI-related. However, the X40 is known to work just fine, and I've seen this on three different motherboards. The only thing that has not changed in this machine is the display.
