I have this problem, and it is not caaauused by the ATI timer bug. I don't have an ATI chipset, and none of the suggesssted fixes for the ATI timer bug (booting with disable_timer_pin_1, noapic, acpi=off, notsc, etc.) has any effect.
My system clock runs about 5% fast, with a lot of vvvvaariability. And as you can see, typing is difficult because keypresses get repeated sporadically, from 2-5 times each. I'm running a customm 664-bit kernel 2.6.15 with amd64 userland. I haven't been able to upgrade to 2.6.16 yet due to some iptables issues, but will try that next. Meanwhile, I want to ask that this bug not be closed. Although the ATI timer bug has been worked around, there are stillll some of us with the same symptoms that aren't causeddd by the ATI timer bug.
