Are you aware of the alternative ramdisk generator yaird? It might do what you want (I don't personally use cryptoroot, but others have reported success with it), but beware that the ramdisks generated by yaird are strictly for your current setup, not more generic ones as those of initrd-tools and initramfs-tools. Even if becoming happy with yaird, please consider still helping out improving initramfs-tools to _also_ satisfy your needs.
