Package: linux-image-2.6.15-1-686 Version: 2.6.15-6 Severity: normal I'm having quite frequent lockups on my SATA system. The controller is a Silicon Image Sil3512A. The system is a Shuttle SN85G4V2 barebone with AMD 64 CPU, 1 gig memory and Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 SATA 200 GB disk.
Immediately before the lockup, the following is printed to the console: ata1: command 0x35 timeout, stat 0x58 host_stat 0x61 ata1: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest } sd 0:0:0:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x8000002 sda: Current: sense key: Aborted Command Additional sense: Scsi parity error end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 57582833 Buffer I/O error on device sda6, logical block 3097255 lost page write due to I/O error on sda6 ATA: abnormal status 0x58 on port 0xF8802087 ATA: abnormal status 0x58 on port 0xF8802087 ATA: abnormal status 0x58 on port 0xF8802087 Originally, a disk failure was suspected. We bought another disk, mounted it as sdb and started copying from old to new. The system locked up before 2 Gb had been copied, same message as above - but this time from sdb, the new disk. Having eliminated the disk, we suspected the motherboard, and the barebone was shipped back to the vendor. They reported back that they had tested it extensively, in particular doing large copies under Windows. This was with different CPU, memory and disk than we used, but seems to indicate that the problem could be in the linux kernel. The driver appears to be sata_sil. I hope you have suggestions on how to proceed with this problem.
