Since my last kernel upgrade (from 2.6.15-1 to 2.6.15-4, I believe), the hostap kernel module seems to override the orinoco kernel module, so my wireless card always comes up in ap mode. Once the hostap modules are started, it does not seem possible to unload them to put the card back into a normal client mode (rmmod/modprobe -r says the driver is in use and cannot be removed). So, it seems I have to manually delete or rename the hostap module to prevent it from being loaded, then reboot if I want to use my card as a client. Is there a more elegant way to disable the hostap driver by default? If not, could you please remove the hostap driver from the stock kernel and go back to the "install the hostap-kernel-module package if you want hostap" way of doing things?
