Printer was running fine under CUPS using parallel port when using kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686_2.6.8-16_i386.deb (Debian 1:3.3.5-12). When I upgraded kernel using kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686_2.6.8-16sarge1_i386.deb, (Debian 1:3.3.6-13) the printer stopped working. In order to restart the printer I had to reinstall the prior version of the kernel using kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686_2.6.8-16_i386.deb AND reinstall the foomatic packages. When I then used CUPS via "localhost:631", and attempted to reinstall the printer on the parallel port (/dev/lp0), CUPS described the printer as "Device URI: parallel:/dev/unknown-parallel0". In the file "/etc/cups/printers.conf" I had to manually change the URI to "/dev/lp0" before I could get the printer to operate properly.
