I rebooted a few days ago with an old kernel and could not boot, so I
suspected an intermittent hardware failure (which might be triggered
more often in a newer kernel; or might be just coincidence).  I've
ordered a pSLC hard drive to replace it (pSLC to hopefully have a better
lifetime this time), which will arrive around 3 weeks from now.  Until
it arrives, I'll keep that computer turned off, just in case that makes
it worse.  Then, I'll turn it on and do a copy of stuff.  When I turn it
on, I'll try to investigate if it really is a hardware failure, or a
software one.
