That patch alone didn't fix the problems reported here, but when combined
with several preceding patches from the past couple weeks, it seems to fix
the last of the problems I reported.
Looks like the upcoming 6.10.9 and 6.11-rc7 might have this sorted out.
(I don't know if all the recent netfslib breakage is resolved yet, though.)
