I have no opinion on whether splitting based on architecture is a good idea, but I did notice there were quite a number of f.e. nvidia firmware files in firmware-misc-nonfree which could be split into their own package? I haven't checked, but the same may be true for others like intel or mediatek. >From firmware-misc-nonfree Description: "This is a collection of firmware blobs which are not individually large enough to warrant a standalone package." It seems some *do* warrant a standalone package.
