and subject line Re: Hibernate bug still occuring?
has caused the Debian Bug report #929077,
regarding linux-image-4.19.0-4-amd64: cannot successfully resume from hibernate
with nouveau driver unless I pass 'nomodeset'
to be marked as done.
This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with.
If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the
Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith.
(NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what this
message is talking about, this may indicate a serious mail system
misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact ow...@bugs.debian.org
immediately.)

Package: src:linux
Version: 4.19.28-2
Severity: normal
I'm running an x86_64 PC with an Nvidia GTX 960 (aka GM206). Using the nouveau
driver. Running fully up-to-date buster.
If I hibernate, on an attempted resume the system hangs up with black monitors.
I can ping it, but I can not ssh in (the port is open, but sshd never
responds). Using SysRq keystrokes to reboot does work.
If I pass 'nomodeset' to the kernel when booting into the hibernated image, the
resume is successful. (And then of course, the resumed-from-image kernel loads
its console framebuffer, thus why nomodeset is not shown in my command line in
this bug report.)
Please let me know whatever other details would be helpful!

Hi Chris & kernel maintainers,

Fine by me if you want to close this bug :)

Hi Chris,
does the bug you described in https://bugs.debian.org/929077 still occur?
I.e.:
* do you still have that system?
* did you maybe upgrade it from Debian buster to bullseye?
As per Chris' OK an per the following reasoning I am closing this bug:
* there have been no follow ups by other users with the same problem, that
*might* indicate that the user base that is concerned by this bug is
small
* there has been a lot of work done between the v4.19.28-2 kernel
mentioned in the bug report and today's 5.x and 6.x kernels. So there's
a real possibility that the bug has been fixed in the meantime, but
we have no way to verify it any more since Chris' system is dead
* the buster distro where the bug occurs will soon be out of official
support and fixes for this specific problem probably won't find their
way into a patch kernel
* even if the bug is closed it should still be findable via search engines
if a user tries to find more information about a bug she is seeing. In
that case this user can reopen this bug and provide more information
about her own system where the problem occurs.
In case anybody disagrees with the above rationale and/or me closing the
bug, then please let me know and/or reopen the bug.
Thanks a lot for the report Chris and the kernel maintainers for their
nice kernels!
