I have upgraded to the test build of VirtualBox (6.1.35) and I am not now seeing Firefox crashing in the virtual guest. Both host and guest are running 5.10.0-16-amd64 - 5.10.127-1. So, I guess this is not a kernel bug so much as a 'incompatibility' between these kernels and the older versions of VirtualBox.
