   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?

     Running vpnserver (SoftEther VPN at http://www.softether.org/) build from 
latest source.
     This program is always automatically booted up on my box.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

     Nothing to do, but vpn was connected to the other vpn server.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

     Did not occur kernel panic.


My box is now running previous version (4.11) and kernel panic has not occurred 
yet.

without resolution.

- the current version in unstable/testing
