mount.cifs to mount a subfolder of a windows server share without having access
right to the share itself
has caused the Debian Bug report #679256,
regarding linux-source: cifs mount of a subfolder of a Windows 2003 Server
share need access rights for the share itself
to be marked as done.
This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with.
If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the
Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith.
(NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what this
message is talking about, this may indicate a serious mail system
misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact ow...@bugs.debian.org

With kernel 3.2.xx you will no longer be able to mount a subfolder of a
Windows 2003 Server share if you don't have access right to the share itself
(of course the user must have access rights to the subfolder).
This is also a problem when using some NAS Devices, which give a user only
access rights to a subfolder of a share.
The reason of this is known upstream (see the 8 th reply to
http://samba.2283325.n4.nabble.com/Trouble-with-mount-cifs-while-smbclient-
works-Ubuntu-12-04-tp4631671p4631800.html) but doesn't seem to be easily
fixable.
This renders debian in some cases unusable as Windows Client (mounting as
Domain administrator always works ;-)
Reverting back to kernel 2.6.xx fixes the problem!
