The live images include firmware-ath9k-htc now, see #934522. By the way, being unaware of this bug at the time I filed #900171, that firmware-free should recommend firmware-ath9k-htc. This reflects the logical relationship better, but it's a trivial difference and I wonder which would be preferred.
