To best explain why I think this is warranted, I propose my system as an example. I have linux-image-amd64 installed, and right now in Buster, that depends on linux-image-4.14.0-3-amd64. That package suggests linux-doc-4.14, but when linux-image-amd64 migrates to a newer version like 4.15, linux-doc-4.14 will probably be autoremoved, and linux-doc-4.15 won't install itself. For the same reason that versioned Linux images suggest their versioned documentation, it makes that Linux image metapackages suggest the linux-doc metapackage. - -- System Information: Debian Release: buster/sid APT prefers testing-debug APT policy: (500, 'testing-debug'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.14.0-3-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQFGBAEBCgAwFiEEJwCMxdBfG24Y2trvfWFEpid5MHIFAlqd+kgSHGpzY290dEBw b3N0ZW8ubmV0AAoJEH1hRKYneTByxvIH/16E3j3zX/SRHf2d09eH4yGCeaU/tttu OL3bEQA8o5fs619Wfc09KPcrkzZBo7kats/0gWOA89XfRli5FsZ9Qq3IqkUB2U1A HcrlLSSTqXwTIiJH5DgCaY9DAd/E1l+bYuFWS5poJFgukaFU0kBazX3flPmFS2lR GwXXAlb+imYv72+AbzpgVLPB2BsWga2fC43lFGaVX1/TlmtDn9bEQGaw3+sjROzx Qdi3T/gMCxNlnOLrY7Im5niuj5jTaa1q/H0hmYvwZdGsADyfHDxPuver5RxQILAV XGROaO/zRh2cxUghgYeBBuVRQmMtVqYUlRb/4QinIzBkPJ6FcTxYOY8= =0KP6 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
