It is. Has also infected the last two Ubuntu LTS releases and probably jessie.

I have done some testing. It's unrelated to OpenVPN, it's the combination of ethernet bridging and sungem. Bug occurs if you bridge a sungem interface with anything. Other network chips bridge fine with each other in the same machine with otherwise identical configuration.

The bridge will send packets through the sungem interface into the network with no trouble, and will receive broadcast and multicast packets from it, but unicast packets received through the sungem interface don't make it to the bridge. So it may be that promiscuous mode is broken.
