I was running some heavy computations, until cursor started severely lagging, keyboard stopped responding, HDD usage led was perpetually on (swap is turned off) and I had to hit the power button. Notice this happened to me multiple times through the years on different machines (including ana Asus x53Sv laptop and a HP Z230 desktop) and different distributions (Debian, Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Mint). When this happened in the past, System Monitor showed that I was using 100% of memory. I even turned swap off with no effect on the issue. I am confident I can replicate this if necessary. I am happy to provide additional information.
