Package: src:linux
Version: 4.4.6-1
Severity: normal
Dear Maintainer,
It seems that the kernel module 'snd-ice1712.ko' is missing from the
linux-image-4.4.0-1-amd64 package.
$ find /lib/modules/4.4.0-1-amd64/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712 -name '*.ko'
/lib/modules/4.4.0-1-amd64/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712/snd-ice17xx-ak4xxx.ko
/lib/modules/4.4.0-1-amd64/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712/snd-ice1724.ko
$ find /lib/modules/4.3.0-1-amd64/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712 -name '*.ko'
/lib/modules/4.3.0-1-amd64/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712/snd-ice17xx-ak4xxx.ko
/lib/modules/4.3.0-1-amd64/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712/snd-ice1724.ko
/lib/modules/4.3.0-1-amd64/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712/snd-ice1712.ko
As a result, sound doesn't work anymore on my computer.
I have a M-AUDIO 2496 board (see below), whose kernel module is snd-ice1712.
$ lspci
<snip>
0a:01.0 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies Inc. ICE1712 [Envy24] PCI
Multi-Channel I/O Controller (rev 02)
<snip>
As a workaround, I'm currently booting the previous linux version
(4.3.0-1-amd64), this way I can have sound again.
Thanks,
Sebastien Alaiwan

The scope of this bug seems pretty major, and was also discussed by the ubuntu
team herehttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1534647
I was hoping there might be something relevant there to this bug

Is there a tracking bug upstream to fix the driver?
To maintain a current kernel I may have to either switch distros or buy another
soundcard, both of which I am hoping to avoid if possible
Thanks in advance
