Switched to 2.6.11 this morning. System was fine all day but crashed
while my daughter was using Open office, listening to music with
evolution open.

There is some interesting stuff in /var/log/kern.log:

The crash occured about 22:24:11 (according to the logs)
You can see the kernel start to write messages about 22:23:27
the lines before this show that the state was quiet until this
started.

--------------------------------

The boot happened at line 2409, the messages before the crash started at
line 738 so thare are about 1700 lines worth.

If someone can use this I can send the whole thing.

I did not see anything like this when 2.6.8 was crashing.
