I'm not convinced that the two Dell related bug reports in this bug are related to the original problem that I reported, other than the fact that they are all probably bugs due to the quality of the USB layer in 2.6.8. My original problem shows up on all kernels before 2.6.10, the Dell problem is in 2.6.8 but not 2.6.7...
