Package: kernel-image-2.4.27-1-686-smp
Version: 2.4.27-6
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

I just upgraded to the -6 package from the -2 package, and depmod -ae
spews lots of symbols not resolvable. It appears the modules were
compiled with modversions while the kernel was not.

for instance

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ nm
/lib/modules/2.4.27-1-686-smp/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/apm.o |head
00001d63 t .text.lock.apm
         U __global_cli_Rsmp_64576b05

while

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ grep __global_cli /boot/System.map-2.4.27-1-686-smp
c010aa30 T __global_cli
c02679a0 R __kstrtab___global_cli
c0276320 R __ksymtab___global_cli

I have no idea how this package made it into testing, as I'm guessing
that this should render many systems unbootable.

I am going to close this bug for now as those packages have
been uploaded.
