Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-1-k7-smp Version: 2.6.8-2 Severity: normal Hi
My machine is a dual althon mp box and motherboard is Tyan 2466-4m which use the AMD768 southbridge. My system is installed into a SCSI disk. The IDE disk is for backup storage only. I installed the kernel-image-2.6.8-1-k7-smp from aptitude and couldn't detect my IDE device after rebooting. I googled some pages: http://kerneltrap.org/node/view/970 http://www.codemonkey.org.uk/docs/post-halloween-2.6.txt and found out I need to enable the CONFIG_IDE=y CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDE=y or CONFIG_BLK_DEV_AMD74XX=y so that I can use my IDE disks with compiled in kernel. Is the problem only occurs to me or the option should be changes in the future? I hope I did a well report...:-) -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-1-k7-smp Locale: LANG=zh_TW.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=zh_TW.UTF-8 (ignored: LC_ALL set to zh_TW.UTF-8) Versions of packages kernel-image-2.6.8-1-k7-smp depends on: ii coreutils [fileutils] 5.2.1-2 The GNU core utilities ii fileutils 5.2.1-2 The GNU file management utilities ii initrd-tools 0.1.74 tools to create initrd image for p ii module-init-tools 3.1-pre5-7 tools for managing Linux kernel mo -- no debconf information
