It will continue this cycle for as long as I leave the machine on. It just looks like some watchdog is timing out and rebooting the machines. The length of time the machine runs before rebooting seems to be very a very specific fixed length (like a watchdog timer would produce). Before you ask: No. the machine is not overheating. Yes I do know about thermal compound and all of that. This is specifically a debian kernel problem. This machine has run fine for the past year and I'm only reinstalling because the hard disk started going bad. Other than that it's a sound machine with no overclocking, thermal or other problems. In fact. I used a beta2 installer to reinstall the machine and it is the same machine I used to edit and send this bug report from. The current beta 3 100M disk produces a system that just continually reboots a short time (1 minute or so) after getting to login prompt on virtual console 2 (since VC 1 is showing the firstboot setup dialog) --------------------------------------- Received: (at 241827-done) by bugs.debian.org; 29 Aug 2004 13:27:17 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Aug 29 06:27:17 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from baikonur.stro.at [213.239.196.228] by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1C1PiH-0007F6-00; Sun, 29 Aug 2004 06:27:17 -0700 Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by baikonur.stro.at (Postfix) with ESMTP id 33D855C00A for <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Sun, 29 Aug 2004 15:27:15 +0200 (CEST) Received: from baikonur.stro.at ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (baikonur [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id 10727-04 for <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Sun, 29 Aug 2004 15:27:14 +0200 (CEST) Received: from sputnik (M908P024.adsl.highway.telekom.at [62.47.145.120]) by baikonur.stro.at (Postfix) with ESMTP id B17875C008 for <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Sun, 29 Aug 2004 15:27:14 +0200 (CEST) Received: from max by sputnik with local (Exim 4.34) id 1C1PiG-0004dF-Rk for [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Sun, 29 Aug 2004 15:27:16 +0200 Date: Sun, 29 Aug 2004 15:27:16 +0200 From: maks attems <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Installed machine just reboots over and over Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.6+20040722i Sender: maximilian attems <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> X-Virus-Scanned: by Amavis (ClamAV) at stro.at Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-3.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00 autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 X-Spam-Level: hotplug 0.0.20040329-13 contains a fix blacklisting watchdogs causing an autatic reboot for 2.6 kernels: look at bug #263556. this hotplug version got inbetween into sarge. if you can still reproduce your error with a current daily build image from debian-installer please reopen. thanks for your bug report. -- maks kernel janitor http://janitor.kernelnewbies.org/
