Comments/Problems:

Here's an odd problem: I can get through the entire install without
any problems at all (with the beta 3 100M disc) but when I reboot
I get to the screens that ask to establish root passwords and such
and then the machine reboots.

It will continue this cycle for as long as I leave the machine on.
It just looks like some watchdog is timing out and rebooting the
machines. The length of time the machine runs before rebooting
seems to be very a very specific fixed length (like a watchdog
timer would produce).

Before you ask: No. the machine is not overheating. Yes I do know
about thermal compound and all of that. This is specifically a
debian kernel problem. This machine has run fine for the past year
and I'm only reinstalling because the hard disk started going
bad. Other than that it's a sound machine with no overclocking,
thermal or other problems.

In fact. I used a beta2 installer to reinstall the machine and
it is the same machine I used to edit and send this bug report
from.

The current beta 3 100M disk produces a system that just continually
reboots a short time (1 minute or so) after getting to login prompt
on virtual console 2 (since VC 1 is showing the firstboot setup
dialog)

hotplug 0.0.20040329-13 contains a fix blacklisting
watchdogs causing an autatic reboot for 2.6 kernels:
look at bug #263556.
this hotplug version got inbetween into sarge.

if you can still reproduce your error with a current
daily build image from debian-installer please reopen.
thanks for your bug report.
