I can accept this explaination, so i think a possible error is otherwhere. I installed a fresh copy of debian from 17 aug 2004 rc-1 installer. I used a different computer since the one that was the target had no CD drive. It worked ok. When i moved the hd on the new computer it worked fine , but when i added a pcmcia card orinoco_cs complained that were no memory_cs present, so i had to install pcmcia-modules to get that module. just to try i reinstalled the OS , but after the CD install i completed the installation from the same PC on which i preinstalled. This time on the second PC it complained that a module could not work, but after changing something in /etc/default/pcmcia, to set the correct controller all went fine. I suppose that the problem is elsewhere (now also the second machine works without memory_cs !) [whnm i tried first time also ds module was not loaded ... it is possible that ds supplies the correct hooks so memory_cs is not required by other modules ?) -- Leonardo Boselli Nucleo Informatico e Telematico del Dipartimento Ingegneria Civile Universita` di Firenze , V.
