I'm not one of the developers, so don't can't tell you what's occurring
or how long it'll take to get digikam moving again, but....
All the work that's visible on the Debian package web site pertains to
v5.9, which, IMO, is a waste of effort.
I realise that the dev team is finite in size, and almost certainly have
plenty to do, but it would be nice to see a more rapid rate of progress.
In short, scrap working on 5.9 and go straight to v6*
