~40 minutes ago, the Sid dist-upgrade + reboot gave me back my beloved Kmail !
Thanks for all your help. Some of first view glitches are - akonadi crash (Kmail windows blank, 'akonadictl restart' fixed it) - had to reenter all passwords for my mail accounts - lots of display settings are lost (fonts, colors, layout), just small things that take some time - all signatures are shown as invalid or 'not enough information' I'll wait a few days before starting to investigate deeper.
