Hi, Since you can't play outside X it look like it is not related to KDE. Try checking with `aplay -l` if there's a device detected, check you `dmesg` output for posible errors. Other posibility is to boot with a previous kernel. But in any case I suggest to report such bug upstream to alsa people.
