Hi Leo. First, it's KDEHOME, not KDE_HOME (I don't know if the second works, but ceirtainly the first is the only one I have seen). It's not set in /etc because AFAIK the setting is done internally, in the code. Second, I'm not fully sure about the place in which can be set, but I suppose /etc/profile will do.
