Sorry, my previous message was probably too much emotional given my (lack of) knoweldge about CS matters (I am not a programmer by any stretch of imagination), but when I see debian/rules which consists mainly from DO_NOT_COMPILE variables, two sets of patches (one in debian/patches, other in debian/local), lots of commenting out, etc., I do not expect good things to come.
