Just a follow up to this for anybody who's having issues. I'm not the original poster, but I was having the same problem -- garbled MP3 playback in KDE apps. I found the solution in my case, and it could be affecting other debian KDE users. Apologies if this has already been posted -- I was unsubscribed for a few weeks while I was out of town:
The problem is documented here: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=244608 Because of a compiler bug, mpeglib 3.2.2-1 has an issue decoding MP3s. This will affect any app using mpeglib to decode MP3s (Juk, Noatun, etc). Until the new version is posted, you can download a re-compiled version of mpeglib here: http://www.marm.org.uk/mpeglib_3.2.2-1_i386.deb On May 15, 2004 05:28 pm, Robert Widhopf wrote: > Tried to send followups to linux.debian.users newsgroup, > but my postings do not show up, nor I get an error ... > > http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&selm=1PhWr-5Nj-33%40gate >d-at.bofh.it > > > "Sean O'Dell" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: > >> I just ran "apt-get update" and "apt-get upgrade" on a machine with a > >> "testing" distribution on it, and all sounds now sound "skippy." > >> > >> If I play any .wav or .mp3 through Noatun, Kaboodle or Juk, it will > >> sound skippy, as if everything is being played through the sound card > >> with the wrong sampling rate set. > >> > >> Everything sounded fine right before the "apt-get upgrade."
