As I really don't know that much about how KDE operates, please realize that this is the reason why I have posted this problem. Any help or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

The most recent upgrade also turned anti-aliasing off for the greeter. Perhaps that has something to do with the ugliness.
Alternate theory: I had turned anti-aliasing on manually; the defaults haven't changed. The file is /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc.
The problem was resolved when I logged in as the root user and tweaked the fonts. Because I have never logged in as root previously (I usually never do with KDE), it wasn't using antialised fonts as where my normal user account does.
Really, thanks guys. I didn't know why I didn't think about that but nontheless, the problem is solved for now. Thanks again.
