If I add /usr/lib/cryptplug/gpgme-openpgp.so to the list of Crypto plugins then click on OK, kmail forgets about it (upon opening the dialog again, it isn't there.).
gpg-agent and pinentry-gtk work fine from the command line, or with kmail's bultin gpg support.
