I have also sid on laptop as a workstation and I had your problem, but it disappeard after installed -pre7. Anyway, try to remove mach64 module from kernel (or maybe you would also need to reinstall xfree86). I'm using mach64 module from http://www.retinalburn.net/linux/dri_xv.html, which are not so uptodate, but stable (for me) and with Xvideo extension (means hardware video zooming :-).
