If you experience severere printing problems connected to cups and so forth, you may want to use my printing stuff: deb http://ktown.kde.org/~nolden/debian/printing woody main have a look for yourself what you can use. We used it on the KDE live CD after working with Kurt Pfeifle from linuxprinting.org and it seems to be just fine.
