German umlaut mystery

Hi,

my KDE apps are not able to display the german umlaut "ö" with Helvetica 14pt 
bold font. Only the small "ö" is affected, the other umlauts display nicely, 
even the big "Ö". GTK apps have no problem showing the "ö". 
Any idea?
