I'm upgrading from the kde.org .debs, and having an entertaining time doing it. I just switched to Chris Cheney's packages for kdenetwork/kmail at people.debian.org, and I ended up having the same problem as other people -- IMAP wasn't working. The connection kept breaking. After several purges and reinstalls of the entire KDE subsystem with no success (to try and fix any busted dependencies), I deleted and reinstalled my IMAP mailbox config in Kmail...
