Try something like: apt-get remove --purge kdelibs* kdebase* kde* This should remove most of kde from your system. Also, if you have kde2.2.2 from Debian installed, doing: dpkg -l | grep ^ii | grep 2.2.2 should give you a list of packages which may include any other kde packages which remain. Have fun with GNOME.
