And, where exactly in the Debian package system database web info pages can this info be found?
I started with http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages and did a search on keyword 'kde', no searching on subwords, any distro. ===== That gave: Debian package search results Release Package (size) unstable kde 4:2.2.18 (6.8k) http://packages.debian.org/unstable/x11/kde.html The K Desktop Environment Responses 1-1 shown, out of total of 1. ===== http://packages.debian.org/unstable/x11/kde.html shows: Package: kde 4:2.2.18 The K Desktop Environment A metapackage containing dependencies for the core suite of KDE including kdelibs, kdebase, kdeadmin, kdegraphics, kdemultimedia, kdenetwork, kdepim, koffice, and kdeutils. Last modified: Sun, 3 Feb 2002 22:15:40 UTC ========================================================================= So now we've found the kde metapackage info, and the most important bug is 'important'. Is _that_ what is keeping the kde metapackage out of Woody? ===== Searching down from http://http.us.debian.org [and this can be screwed up, I think. Sometimes it works, sometines it doesn't, cause that url is multi-homed to different archives. The exact path to the file depends on which archive you get. :( ] Anyway, if you get the _real_ debian archive, not a mirror, and go down to http://http.us.debian.org/dists/sid/main/binary-i386/ then look in the 'Packages' file - Warning - 6 MB file size! (DL the .gz version - 1.6 MB) http://http.us.debian.org/dists/sid/main/binary-i386/Packages you will see the kde metapackage info: ========================================================================= Package: kde Priority: optional Section: x11 Installed-Size: 48 Maintainer: Ivan E. Provides Suggests and Recommends for all other KDE based packages. . Does not contain depends for Toys, Games, or Development packages. Task: desktop ========================================================================= Now going to ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ and looking up the metapackage kde, ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/m we find listed: meta-kde directory 12/22/01 9:41 pm And in that direcotory, ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/m/meta-kde we find a bunch of .deb files all dated 12/17/01 So, those files are all old enough to have qualified for the 2 weeks with no bugs to get into Woody. Specifically, ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/m/meta-kde/kde_2.2.18_all.deb is > 2 weeks old, and it itself (ie, not looking at bugs in the packages this metapackage contains) has at most bugs of level of 'important'. It takes a bug more severe than 'important' to keep a package out of Woody, right? [Can you give me a URL for where the description of what is required for a package to get from S > W?] Wrong? Does that mean an ugly font and problems with accented fonts is keeping this very useful metapackage out of Woody? If so, that seems an awfully small problem holding up a package with major benefits to installation efficiency, at least. That is _very_ bad, if true. So, what, exaxtly, needs to be done to get the kde metapackage into Woody? ????? Thanks :) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Great stuff seeking new owners in Yahoo!
