Raśl Santana mailed me (Thanks!) that this is probably caused by a mismatch between kernel version 2.4.13 and NVidia drivers. I've just changed to 2.4.17 and altough I haven't used it for too long yet, it seems to have helped: either it is only my imagination or the system now swaps a lot less and is much more responsive. If the former proves to be the case, I'll let you know. :) - Jarno
