Its goal is to enable productive development of high-performance web applications without the developer having to be an expert in browser quirks, XMLHttpRequest, and JavaScript. GWT used to be part of Debian but got removed from the archive because of security issues, see [1]. New versions were released since then, and should have fixed these issues.
